My work takes elements from the abstract expressionist movement to create abstract atmospheric spaces in which human expression can be embodied.

Expression is primal, an innate and unconscious display of our most intimate selves. Expression is normally communicated subtly through body language, speech, or actions. Expressionism in painting is interesting because it takes emotions in their most basic form and gives them a face, representing something that normally cannot be seen.

My work is about transferring energy, it is about translating a feeling into visual language. Think of the artist as a conduit, from which energy flows into the work. I imagine emotions as physical realms, atmospheric spaces where they might exist. I work to create these places so that they may be seen.

My subject matter is drawn from life experiences; sights, memories, and emotions. I have a particular fondness for the Romanticism movement, painters such as Delacroix and Turner are my heroes. I believe there are parallels between the Romantic movement and the Abstract Expressionist movement which I actively explore.

I practice automatism, action painting, as well as elements of traditional representation. Discovery is paramount in my process, I try not to glue myself to any particular set of tools for creation.
